The public transport is a primary service for people´s mobility, that need an efficiency network of buses, even in cities like Granada, where exist a high number of people who moves on foot.
Law 2/2011, of Substainable Economy, inspired in the Environment European Strategies and Urban Transport, determine that the big cities have to start up Mobility Subtainable Plans to guarantee the effective ways of displacements from an economical view, social and environmental. The urban public transport system must adapt to replace private vehicles and reduce pollution emissions to the atmosphere.
In Granada a work team was created with mobility technicians and experts in transport, with the support of the University, that analised the current system and detected the weakness that must be solved: the superposition of itineraries cause pollution, aural and visual, as the lack of efficiency in speed and delays on the arrival. It is very clear to see in the center, where fifteen lines with a hundred of buses cross the axis of Reyes Católicos, Gran Vía and Constitución Ave. The most part of them cover the route North - South, making complicated itineraries and long distance, that difficult the maintenance of frequencies, having to handle many stops, traffic lights and traffic jams. It is crucial to implement a more efficiency and substainabel system.
Starting from a Mobility Poll, made in a sample of 6,021 people, analizing the starting and arriving points of trips, dividing the city in 96 zones. The results show that more than the 50% go to the central zone; the axis of Camino de Ronda is the destination of a 13%; south zone recieve the 15% of trips, while the 12% goes north; and the rest, a 10% is divided in transversal trips. These displacement features have been studied:passengers distribution in days and time slot, frequency of use, age of users and motive of their trip. The configuration of Granada and its roads corridors, capacity and connections, also determined the possibilities of a more efficiency bus lines layout, to answer to the neccessities of grenadians.
It is configurated as an integral network, that takes in consideration the means of public transport, urban and metropolitan. Lines of every neighbourhood link with a High Capacity Line, that follows through the center of the city in an exclusive way; direct lines that take passengers from south to north, and vice versa, getting through Camino de Ronda, and the universitary lines, connecting every student center.
The preservation of the environment, a more modern system, more accessible and a image of Granada according to its quality of historic and heritage city. We will save speed and punctuality of the buses. In short: efficiency and substainability.
