More substainable buses: 2 brand new hybrid models
The Renovation Plan of the Public transport fleet, signed by the City Council and Rober company, has the agreement of the acquisition, in the months to come, of 39 hybrid thecnology buses.
The City Council of Granada begins the renovations of urban buses with the integration of two brand new hybrid models.
Granada joins the city that bet for a substainable mobility with the integration to the urban transport fleet of two brand new hybrid buses. These are two Mercedes model Citaro Hybrid, with the last hybrid technology based on the combination of a diesel termal engine, and an electric engine with storage batteries, that works as an energy recover unit on brakings and as an energy contribution to termal engine, reducing fuel usage, and therefore pollution.
During the presentation, both the Major of Granada, Luis Salvador,and Mobility Council, César Díaz, have agreed that these two acquisitions mark a before and after in mobility of public transport in the city and mean the spearhead of that fleet that is going to be renewed for the mobility in Granada to be more substainable and suitable for what an european green city needs, that it is what we aim to be in the years to come, the Major assured.
Along the same lines talked César Díaz, who has remembered that in less than hundred days, this government team make the decision of an important renewal of the public transport fleet y has pointed that in Granada at this moment has only diesel buses circulating and from today we have more advanced and substainable technology. There will be on spring of the following year when will be incorporated 37 more buses.
The new vehicles -acquired in the mark of the Renewal Plan of the Fleet approved on the Local Government Council last July- also imply, as the Major and Mobility Council said, a significant improvement on the environmental quality of the city. In addition to the emmision saving, the fuel usage of these new buses goes around 0,38 litres/km, far below the 0,60 litres/km that actually consume the two buses that Transportes Rober will remove from its fleet.
This model of bue, 10,6 meters lenght, has been chosen on purpose a little bit shorter than conventional model (12 meters), because having a less distance between axles means a better manoeuvrability when driving, and make it an ideal model for driving through narrow streets and central areas of Granada.
Vehicles will have 86 seating places each one and higher capacity for standing passengers than comparable conventional models. Also, with these new buses improves the accibility of disabled people, because they are going to be the first ones in the fleet of Granada with double ramp (electrical and manual).
Model Citaro Hybrid of Mercedes Benz, incorporates the ultimate hybrid technology of the market, is very widespread in Europe, with more than 400 buses circulating at the end of 2018, and is increasing its sales in Spain, rising from 92 units in 2018 in Barcelona, to 164 buses of this model circulating around spanish cities in 2019 as Valencia, Lugo, Córdoba and Alicante.
The incorporation of two new buses in Granada, that will come into functioning in weeks to come, is the first step of the Renewal Plan of the Fleet performed by the City Council of Granada and Transportes Rober, and mean the purchase of 39 vehicles arriving to the city on the first semester of 2020, understanding and investment of almost 12 million euros, and a clear commitment to hybrid technology, which means a great environmental improvement in the city of Granada.
After considering the initiative as a great new for Granada, both Luis Salvador and César Díaz have highlited the improvement of environmental quality that this fleet renewal means and agreed that the City Council must be the first one to set a good example in substainability.
