Almost all fleet of urban buses in Granada will have free wifi for all users because the City Council has engaged the acquisition and installation of a sum of 194 routers a broadband internet connection 4G/LTE and Wifi with resilience options and security arrangement.
Users will have from February free internet service via captive portal to be accessed through QR code where after registration will be activated once user get on the urban public transport in Granada.
This are the statements made this morning by the Mayoress of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, in a press conference where she has highlited that this measure, included in the Project for the Digitalization of Urban Transport in Granada, means a step forward of the municipal government to equip Granada with a more modern, sustainable and the most advanced features urban transport as reflected in the increasement of passengers registered this year, a sum of 8 per cent.
In detail, as she has aheaded, service of urban transport provided by Alsa has registered until December 2024 a sum of 28.069.045 passengers, almost two million more than in 2023, which has recorded 26.091.450 users.
This means, in words of Carazo Villalonga, an excellent new in the inalienable commitment of the city government to encourage a sustainable mobility where we leave behind the use of private vehicle in favour of urban public transport which will allow more sustainability and improvement of quality of air, she said.
Also, she remembered that the city has signed the bonification of urban buses´s fares for the next six months as National Government has renewed this agreement as well, thanks to which prices will be reduced a 50 per cent both in monthly cards, that will cost 20,50 euro instead of 41, and ticket price, in bus card of 5 and 10 euro will cost 0,45 euro, and on 20 euro bus card will cost 0,44 euro. Besides, it is also being promoted the gratuity of some lines of public transport on significant dates when is important to park the car and use bus to minimize delays due to high number of users in different areas of the city.
Carazo Villalonga, also pointed out that discount rates are 20 per cent discounted by the City Council, and National Goverment discount 30 per cent remaining, specifying that togheter with this bonification in urban transport, the City Council keeps its commitment with renewal of buse fleet adding more modern, comfortable, with better features and more sustainablevehicles.
So, City Council and Alsa company have put into service in the last four years leven new vehicles, four hyrid technology minibuses and seven big dimensión vehicles. Last consignment of buses, presented on December 14 meant an investment of 1.168.647 euro, as arranged in the agreement of Junta de Gobierno Local signed at the end of August, where was adopted an investment of 3.518.072 euro. Since we are in charge of city government, we had incorporated 19 new vehicles with several technologies that mean a subtantial improvement in the bus fleet of our city.
In this respect Carazo Villalonga has remarked the strong political determination of municipal government to make a step forward in the renewal of the bus fleet incorporating vehicles with better features, more comfortable and equipped with the most eco friendly technologies.
The head of City Council has also remembered that Granada progress with a serious, consistent and strict programme in the implementation of european regulations of Low Emission Zone, that will come into force on April 1st, even though she has regretted the lack of seriousness of last goverment team who did nothing.
As she assured is has been a lot of work that we have to carry out in almost a year and a half, because, to the political decision, has been added the need to unify municipal normative into a single ordinance, to the contract of signalling, control and security systems. In addition we have to add the effort made to develop a low emission zone incluiding social impact, environmental and economical analysis, that is far advanced.
Specifically, has outlined that in addition to the project of new ordinance of Mobility, approved in Junta de Gobierno Local on December 30 which unifies 13 municipal ordinances to simplify and clarify citizenship all about mobility issues in Granada, have been granted the access control system and signalling of the perimeter of Low Emission Zone. This new ordinance will be originally approved in the Mobility Commission next January 10.
