Rearrangement of urban bus lines

Presentation rearrangement public transport Granada

Local government present a new rearrangement of bus network that lengthen LAC line to some districts and reduce transfers with the implementation of new bus lines.

These modifications, developed by technicians of mobility area, are the result of cooperative work achieved in so many meetings of the Observatory for Mobility and gather all requests of neighbourhoods made in the district municipal boards.

To legthen LAC line to Chana and Zaidin districts; reduce to the maximum number of transfers in the city; and support and provide a good quality service between districts are the mainlines of action of this rearrange of bus network presented this morning by local government, a proposal shared and interactive, achieved in the observatory of Mobility and District Municipal Boards, whose main objective is that granadian people have a more homogeneus, equitable, comfortable and and intuitive mean of transport.

For the City Councellor of Mobility, Raquel Ruz, the rearrangement proposed is imperative: in contrast to previous plan, from the government team have made a new system that pretend, above all, to ease every day life of citizens; a more comfortable system where most of displacements are made just in one bus; a more easy system, that ends with mistakes caused by previous clasification and propose clarity in the clasification of lines..

General map of lines

Beside these objectives of quality in public transport; comfort on displacements; connectivity on same conditions, from one end to end and without transfers for all the city; this project takes a chance on reaching every place and look after neighbourhoods. Also, City Councellor of Mobility has highlighted two very important questions of this new plan: intermodality with Light Rail and betting for a real substainability.

As the councillor said since our arrival to local government, we have bet for participation to improve bus network in Granada; mediate viable, equalitarian and agreeded solutions; and solve citizen problems created.

Also, to achieve total intermodality with Light Rail, the functioning of the new plan will be on April, beside the implementation of free transfers.

Finally, when talking about substainability, City Councillor has assured that this proposal improves air quality because, from one side, there will be the same journeys a day through the center of the city, and from the other, we save meaningful kilometers made, which means less pollution.

MAIN NOVELTIES OF THE PLAN

One of novelties is that this rearrange is based in the reduction of transfers, so goverment has bet for primary lines going from side to side of the city, arriving almost to every point of the city. In this sense, and in order to be a more intuitive, comfortable and simple system, these 7 Primary lines will have a simple numeration very similar to the one that used to be to ease mistakes and problems made by previous local government..

Above this lengthen of LAC itinerary to districts, another novelty of this new system is the implementation of 3 new bus lines; two of them are circular: from one side, bus number 11 gets back; from another, bus line 21, that will made the same itinerary that bus number 11 but in reverse sense. With these new bus lines, answer the demands of neighbours of Camino de Ronda and Center, whose displacements now imply a large number of transfers, even double transfer. Also, now, will arrive directly and will have intermodality with Light Rail in all stops in Camino de Ronda..

And beside this, there is also bus line 6, with head stop in Parque de las Ciencias, arriving to Parque de las Alquerías, in Chana, giving service to this residential for the firs time. For the councellor it is imperative that for the first time, a mobility plan connects the second most important museum space in the city, with Historic and Touristic Center, at the same time that allows communication between districts and offers a quality public transport for it neighbours and population of Forum area and Parque de las Alquerías area in la Chana.

Above these changes, the City Council has bet for the return of bus line C32, that connects the Alhambra and historic district of Albaicín that was eliminated inthe previous plan and give its previous nomenclature to the bus connecting Acera del Darro and cemetery as bus line 13, a claim of neighbours and users of this service.

Primary line going through Granada from side to side, a denominated system called `end to end´, will be complemented with current network aimed to give service inter districts, this is, getting closer bordering districts. This network is subdivided as we know in North Complementary, with 8 lines `N´, and South Complementary, with 3 lines `S´.

If primary network offers a full service and side to side of the citythat ends with transfers, and Complementary Network is aime to offer quality and more communication between districts; bus lines named `C´ pretend to connect historical and monumental places of the capital with the urban Center, this is why they are called C lines. The main change on these bus lines is the return of line 32 which connects Alhambra and Albaicín.

Bus line C31 Albaicín Centro, remains the same and offers a very important service for neighbours, families and workers of this notable district that, daily go to Granada due to work reasons or managements; C34 connects Sacromonte with the center of the city; C30 Alhambra-Isabel La Católica, aimed for tourists and visitors; and finally, C35 that makes itinerary Cementerio-Barranco del Abogado-Plaza Isabel La Católica.

Finally, in the purpose of local government, bus lines `U´ that make itineraries around universitary centers (U1 U2 and U3) and night Round Trip lines -Buho, 111 and 121, keep their numeration and itineraries.

PRIMARY NETWORK

In Primary NetworkDentro, this new plan proposes 5 new bus lines : 33, 3, 4, 5 and 6, with two circular bus lines already mentioned: 11 and 21.

First of them, line 4 (currentLAC) is one of the novelties of the plan that, in words of the councellor, create more interest between neighbours living in popular districts, high populated, and located in opposite sides of the city as Chana and Zaidin are. Itinerary planned gets through carretera de Málaga and gets to PTS through Dilar Avenue.

With the arrival of line 4 to these districts, comes to an end a transport system based on first grade and second grade granadians; we offer a uniform and equal service, from end to end of the city.

The second line framed within this `Primary Network´, is line 33 (current SN1) that from Cenes de la Vega will get to Bus Station, through Gran Vía, Constitución and Juan Pablo II Avenue; a major route connecting three districts: Genil, Center and North.

For its part, line 3 (current SN3) will make itinerary between Rebites and Chana, getting through Recogidas, Camino de Ronda and Andalucía Avenue. This line `Primary´ connects Genil and Chana districts and, as the councellor sais, it is important to emphasize that will get to Puerta Real, this is, will have a stop in the city center. Again, three districts will be connected.

Another primary line is number 5 (current SN5) that connects Beethoven with Parque Nueva Granada getting through Camino de Ronda, Constitución, and Juan Pablo II. In this case too, we have a line that gives service to three important districts: Zaidín, Ronda and North.

Bus line 6 is created, will have head stop in Parque de las Ciencias, go through Camino de Ronda, Gran Vía and Constitución, and will arrive to Parque de las Alquerías, in Chana, giving service to this residential for the first time . For the councellor it is imperative that for the first time, a mobility plan connects the second most important museum space in the city, with Historic and Touristic Center, at the same time that allows communication between districts and offers a quality public transport for it neighbours and population of Forum area and Parque de las Alquerías area in la Chana.

Finally, point out the creation of two new bus lines in this Primary Network: bus line 11 Round trip, and 21 Round Trip. For the councellor, with these two new lines we give solution to displacements of neighbours of Camino de Ronda and Center whose displacements with current network are chaotic, sometimes making double transfer. With the creation of these two round lanes now they will get directly, and also, will have intermodality with Light Rail in all stops in Camino de Ronda.

CONNECTION BETWEEN DISTRICTS, COMPLEMENTARY NETWORK

Beside bus lines in Primary Network, the new collective urban public transport proposed by local government, create a Complementary Network aimed to give service between districts, this is, join bordering districts and make them more permeable. This network is divided in Complementary North, with eight lines `N´; and Complementary South, with three lines `S´.

Line N1 Bobadilla-Triunfo will make the same itinerary as it does now, but bus stop in Rector Marín Ocete will be eliminated, improving environment and welfare of neighbours and students of school Luis Rosales, a line that will get to Triunfo, this is, will be closer to the city center.

It happens the same with line N3 Cerrillo Maracena-Triunfo, that will have the same route as it does now, with two exceptions: elimination of bus stop in Rector Marín Oceta and arrival to Triunfo through Constitución, that get users of this bus line to the city center.

There are several new features in bus line N4 Albaida-Caleta: from one part, does not get to Triunfo; and also, eliminates the turn in bus station and extends from another side to Casería de Aguirre.

On the other hand, bus lines N5, Modesto Cendoya-Joaquina Eguaras; N6 Casería del Cerro-Avda Pulianas –Caleta; N7 Parque Nueva Granada-triunfo; N8 Fargue-Triunfo and N9 Mirador de San Miguel-Triunfo keep their itineraries completely.

In Complementary Network South, that is composed by three lines, has to be stressed objective proposed by Municipal Plan to promote that buses get as close to Urban center as possible.

So, Line S2 Villa Argaz-Centro will make the same itinerary as it does now, but it will not be named Palacio de Congresos, it will not get to Aviación roundabout and will modify itinerary to get to Acera del Darro.

It happens the same to bus line S3 Palacio de Deportes-Center. Although it keeps the same itinerary, it will not be named Palacio de Congresos, because modification has been made to get to urban center, this is, will not get to Aviación roundabout and gets to Acera del Darro.

With these S lines double objectives of reducing transfers and get neighbours and families close to the city shopping center are complied.

On its part, line S0 means a modification of itinerary connecting Carretera de la Sierra with PTS, this is, Genil district and Bola de Oro with hospital, biosanitary and universitary area in Zaidin.

CONNECTION OF TOURSITIC AREAS AND HISTORICAL DISTRICTS IN URBAN CENTER, C LINES

On their part, C lines connect district and historical and monumental areas of the capital with the urban center keep their name as C lines, and after the rearrangement of local goverment, C32 line comes into operation.

In this section also will find line C31 Albaicín-Center, that remains the same and offer a service very important for neighbours, families and workers of this district that, daily daily go to Granada due to work reasons or managements; C34 line that connects Sacromonte and Center; C30 Alhambra-Isabel La Católica, aimed for tourists and visitors; and finally, line C35 going through Cemetery-Barranco del Abogado-Plaza Isabel La Católica.

In respect of bus line C32, Ruz has explained that it was an emblematic line due to its itinerary that, historically has joined the Alhambra with Albaicín, through Gran Vía, a very well known and remembered line that, is again present in the city.

UNIVERSITARY `U´ LINES AND NIGHT LINES KNOWN AS `BUHO´ KEEP THEIR ITINERARIES AND NUMBERING

Finally, in the proposal of local government, three `U´ bus lines making route around universitary centers (U1, U2, and U3), as well as two Night Round Lines (111 and 121) that keep their itineraries and numbering.

After exposing main points of local proposal of the rearrangement of bus network in the city, the councellor has remarked that this plan gives answer to the conclusions made by mobility observatories, neighbours requests in District Boards, and technicians of the mobility area, and in this sense, has trusted in the support of a proposal that not only pretend to solve problems in current plan, but, to connect all city, ease everyday life of citizens, and offer an equal and homogeneus quality service where there are no first grade and second grade users.
