The City Council to settle up in August 120 new bike parking places
With these new units, the total of bike parking places in the city of Granada becomes to 587.
The city will have in august ten new bike parking places that means 120 brand new parking spaces for these vehicles; an initiative included in the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, and a step forward to start up a cycle path network.
In a visit to the bike parking place in San Jernónimo st., the council of Citizen Protection and Mobility, Mrs. Telesfora Ruiz, has remarked the progressive implementation of this network that, it is made due to the citizen´s querys and the centers and hot spots in journeys, as schools, high schools, public administrations, markets, parks, leisure centers, shopping streets and urban center, among others.
To ensure the success of this cyclist network we must design properlly bicycle parking lots and cycle path networks in neighbourhood, cities, and metropolitan areas, giving answers to the schools, universitary and labour destinations.
In this sense, the council has remembered that the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan in Granada includes the Street Furniture for Bycicles in the City programme -supporting infrastructure to the cycle mobility- Bicycle parking lots plan.
In this new implementation phase, there will be added 120 lots to the 467 existing, making a total of 587.
These brand new units will be installed at:
- San Juan de Dios st., next to Padre Suarez High School.
- San Jerónimo st, beside Music Conservatory (Conservatorio de Música).
- Trinidad Square.
- Paseo de los Basilios, beside Escolapios School.
- Fuente de las Batallas.
- Beiro District Civic Center.
- Convention Center (Palacio de Congresos).
- Caleta square.
- Andrés Segovia st, near Zaidin District Civic Center.
- Madrid avenue, next to San Lázaro Public Parking.
This new model to be settled up is a safe parking lot, made by a steel tube bended in U shape, with place enough to tie the bike enclosing the frame and two wheels of it, to make more difficult robbery. Each of these ten points have 6 lots and in every lot, place for two bycicles.
