Paseo del Violón, from Aviación to Antonio Dalmases, became a reserved lane for public transport

Public transport reserved lane in Paseo del Violón

The implementation of this new measure implies traffic changes in the surroundings to manage new routes for private transport.

Paseo del Violón, city center direction, in the section between Aviación Española roundabout and Antonio Dalmases st. will be a reserved and protected line for LAC – taxis also -; a measure of the City Council to favour this public and sustainable transport, with several modifications in traffic to get alternative itineraries, diversify routes and improve flow of private traffic in the surroundings.

The Citizens Protection and Mobility council Mrs. Telesfora Ruiz has explained that the proper functioning of a public transport line and particulary a High Capacity one, requires a reserved and protected lane across all its itinerary.

The boost in sustainable mobility, shared and promoted by the European guidelines of transport and sustainability, could be achieved with the implementation of measures to favour less polluting displacements: pedestrian mobility, cycles and public transport.

About Paseo del Violón, she has remarked that it is necessary to create this lane in a controversial point with private vehicles, in Paseo del Salon in City Center direction, in its section between Aviación Española roundabout and Antonio Dalmases st., keeping this lane for public transport (Bus and Taxis) and authorized vehicles between 7:30 to 22:30 hours. This way, we avoid the coexistence and convergence of traffic and improve the flow and frequency of public transport, a main point in this service.

The implementation of this reserved line, through august, and its new road signs, means several modifications.

Trafic Changes in Paseo del Violon

On one side, there will be a change in the sense of circulation in Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada st., that became in to a one way road from Paseo del Violón to Dílar Ave.

Also, Callejón del Pretorio change in to a two way street, from Profesor Albareda to Paseo de los Basilios, thanks to the change of the metropolitan services to Tierno Galván st. and Antonio Dalmases st. to ease way to those vehicles going Sagrado Corazón and Escolapios schools during the school year.

In addition, the City Council will settle up traffic lights in the pedestrian crossing of Carrera de la Virgen with Paseo del Salón.

The council has remarked that with these modifications we achieve new routes for private tranport, that diversifies in many ways, and to that point has referred one by one in detail.

Vehicles going from Camino de Ronda to the parking zone of the surroundings of San Antón st. could use Alhamar or Agustina de Aragón streets.

Vehicles arriving from Camino de Ronda to Paseo de los Basilios area, Cuesta de Escoriaza and Carretera de la Sierra could use América ave., Dílar ave. and Pablo Picasso, st. choosing Poeta Manuel de Góngora st. and turning to Paseo de los Basilios or through Callejón del Pretorio (with it two direction implementation) to Paseo de los Basilios.

On the other side, traffic arriving from Camino de Ronda to Cervantes ave.: they could choose between América ave., Dílar ave and Pablo Picasso st., and from that point take Callejón del Pretorio and Paseo de los Basilios to Cervantes ave. or through Camino Bajo de Huétor andr Alcalá de Henares, Sancho Panza or Pianista Pepita Bustamante to Cervantes ave.

From Barcelona ave. or Jardín de la Reina to the city center we get through underpass to get to Paseo del Violón from Fernando de los Ríos roundabout; from Zaidín to the city center we will get trhough América ave., Dílar ave., Pablo Picasso, Poeta Manuel de Góngora and Acera del Darro; and from Zaidín to Cuesta de Escoriaza, Carretera de la Sierra or Cervantes ave. we can go through Dílar ave. and Pablo Picasso, and from that point choose betweeen r Callejón del Pretorio and Paseo de los Basilios to Carretera de la Sierra and Paseo de la Bomba, or Camino Bajo de Huétor and Alcalá de Henares, Sancho Panza or Pianista Pepita Bustamante to Cervantes ave.

Telesfora Ruiz has assured that to rearrange traffic in this point there have been thorougly analysd motorised displacements in Paseo del Violón, both those to the city center and those to get to the surroundings neighbourhoods.

Specially, there have been analysed and quantified the following points:

  • From Camino de Ronda to Paseo del Violón, turning left in Aviación roundabout.
  • From Barcelona ave.and Jardín de la Reina, through Fernando de los Ríos ave., to Paseo del Violón.
  • From América ave. to Paseo del Violón, turning right in Aviación roundabout.
  • From Paseo del Violón to city center or, through Puente Blanco.
  • From Paseo de los Basilios, destination Puente Verde to Carretera de la Sierra, Cervantes ave. and Cuesta de Escoriaza.
  • From Carretera de la Sierra destination Camino de Ronda and Fernando de los Ríos ave.
