Sunday without traffic in the city center

Granada will close to traffic Recogidas Street during the morning of Sunday 10th June for its people´s pleasure

 

This measure encourages healthy displacements and improve both environmental quality and people´s life.

Streets of the center of Granada will be closed to traffic this Sunday, between nine in the morning and three in the afternoon, for the pleasure of its citizenship, that can join different leisure , cultural and entertaintment activities planned. It has been announced this morning by the Major of the city, Francisco Cuenca, who said that this measure will affect around 2.000 vehicles that will not emit more than 250 kilos CO2.

This is, as Cuenca said, the beginning of a pilot programme that pretends to close to traffic one Sunday per month, some streets and areas in Granada to reduce pollution, encourage new means of transport alternative to car and assign the center of the city for the use and pleasure of people and not vehicles.

This proposal, framed in the project Park your car and enjoy Granada, that pretends to incorporate ideas and activities to encourage healthy displacements, sports practice, suppport of local trade and cultural life. All this to improve quality of life in our city, has added.

In detail, on Sunday 10, coinciding with Environmental Week and the celebration of the Women´s Run, will be carried out a pilot experience that will cut road traffic in Recogidas between nine in the morning and three in the afternoon, diverting public transport and allowing circulation only for residents of the area.

Also, there will be eco trade, craft zoco; swing dances and leisure and cultural proposals for all ages, bicycling, informative stands of Local Police, canine patrol exhibitions and firemen vehicles, among others. This experience, that will be presented in the next Mobility Commission, is quite wide and pretends to be extended to other districts of the city on an itinerant way.

During the presentation of this initiative, the Major has remarked the firm commitment of the Government team of a real and effective environmental transformation in the city of Granada that have been captured in some actions aimed to improve air quality and reduce noise, light pollution, visual impact or CO2 emissions. All this to fight against climate change and, in the end, make Granada a green city.

As an example of these measures, the Major has referred to the approval of Covenant of Majors against Climate Change, the incorporation of environmental closures in administrative contracts, the impulse of Plan Quality of Air and Noise Map in the city; installation of devices or microchips in garbage containers for an intelligent garbage collection or the implementation of electric vehicles to municipal fleet for different services and recharge points of electric vehicles.

Also, we have been promoted the great green space in the South of Granada, located in the PTS, a reality that I wanted to unlock since my arrival to the Local Government, and its a commitment of this Government team to protect and promote the Vega as a real natural and patrimonial environment , a Vega that we have to protect, but also to make it a living space that can be enjoyed., has concluded.


Traffic cut

On Sunday 10 June 2018 there will be traffic cut in Recogidas Street, between Pedro Antonio de Alarcón Street and Puerta Real.

There will be allowed to cross through Recogidas Street in junctions with Martínez Campos and Solarillo de Gracia Streets.

Bus line SN3 will not get throuhg Recogidas Street, will follow through Camino de Ronda to Aviación roundabout.
