Motorbike conferences coexisting with bicycles recieve this year students from different high schools and, for the first time, from the University of Granada.
The councellor of Mobility, Raquel Ruz, assured that the message has got through on road safety, but we cannot lower our guard.
Motorbike conferences coexisting with bicycles, developed in Huerta del Rasillo from 23 to 25 October, recieve this year students from different high schools of Granada and, for the first time , from the University of Granada. Participating high schools are Ramón y Cajal, Hermenegildo Lanz, Ave María Casa Madre, Ave María San Cristóbal and, as novelty, Universisity of Granada.
Mobility Councillor, Raquel Ruz Peis, has assured, during the presentation of these conferences, that messages have got through on road safety, but we cannot lower our guard due to accident rate registered.
Local center of Road Safety of the Mobility Area of Granada encourages the seventeenth edition of these conferences in cooperation with associations Mutua Motera and Vespacito. The aim is to raise awareness, educate and inform young people and teenagers about questions related to safety when driving two wheeled vehicles, the most popular and used in this segment of population.
Data reveal that two wheeled vehicles represent a 30% of vehicles in the city but the four of them decrease every year since 2012. Advantages for motorbikes, mopeds and bicycles, in Granada, are clear: economical and time saving, easy to park and favourable climate. These possibilities commit to teach a proper education, take greater precautions and security, has remarked the councellor.
The use of helmet; respect traffic rules, traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, keep safety distance, avoid prohibited overtakings and distractions compose, basically, the agenda of these conferences.
The City Council of Granada has assumed a great commitment with this collective, has pointed out Ruz, materializing actions that favour safer displacements. Some of development works made on the pavement are motorbike grid, use of maximum security componets on asphalt painting, increasement of parking places, settlement of safer urban furniture and educatioinal and awareness campaigns.
Urban accidents on the first nine months of these last two years has decreased on two wheeled vehicles: a 17.5% on motorbikes and a 33% on mopeds. More usual accidents are front-lateral collisions, overturnings and running over isolated people or a group of people. From 26 to 35 years and from 46 to 55 are the ages that gather more motorbike accidents and from 18 to 35, moped accidents.
