The City Council will prohibit circulate vehicles without Zero Emissions Label or Eco in the Center area from 31 December 2025
The city amplies new measures to improve quality of air to Camino de Ronda, Fuentenueva Avenue and Ribera del Genil from pollution.
The City Council of Granada, in response to the high levels of pollution in the city, will prohibit from 31 December 2025 in the Center area, extending to Ribera del Genil, Camino de Ronda, Fuentenueva Avenue the access of vehicles that does not have Zero Emmisions Label or Eco, stablished by the resolution of the National Department of Traffic in 2016 .
This is a new set of measures approved by government team in response to the order given by the Plenary, after the approval of the Air Quality Improvement Plan, that includes, also, the prohibition of circulation of HGVs of goods, that can only circulate from 31 December 2023 with an authorization of Mobility Area.
As announced by the council of Urban and Environment council, Miguel Ángel Fernández, on the press conference to inform about issues that tomorrow will be approved in the Local Government Board, where, beside the speaker of the government team and the Economy and Finance council, Baldomero Oliver, has marked the measure in a unanimous resolution of this government team, versus other political groups que denied bad quality of air, has warned, to face categorical, severe and real wat the problem of pollution in the city, has said.
After that, according to studies of thr University of Granada, technical solution to face the bad quality of air in Granada implies a reduction of traffic in the Center and the implementation of ecological vehicles, Fernández Madrid has recognised that measures imply a big effort for citizens, but has also explained that, residents of new extended Center area, will authorize access to those vehicles previously registered before this agreement..
Also, has said that all vehicles that the City Council of Granada has to buy, from this agreement date, must fulfill needed requirements to have a Zero Emmisions or Eco Label, requirement that can be only infringed, with a previous motivated and legitimated report, when it is not viable due to needed power, capacity or other technical requirements, has remarked.
Also, the municipal agreement takes this commitment to those vehicles of private entities with a contract subscribed by the City Council for the provision of public services, a requirement that will appear in the terms of conditions in contracts of the City Council of Granada.
Fernández Madrid has remarked the necessity to address these measures, that has clasified of categorical but required, in as much as, as he said, after an study of the Institute Interuniversitary of investigation of the Earth System in Andalusia of the University of Granada shows that on weekends, period where traffic reduces in the city a 30%, there is a decreasement of NO2 levels of 39%.
