The City Council of Granada invites citizenship to enjoy this Sunday 9 December a new edition of Car Free Day so Recogidas Street will be closed to traffic from nine in the morning to three in the afternoon. This is what Mobility Council Raquel Ruz has said, and also is very proud that Granada has been awarded by Spanish Government with the golden medal for being the number one city improving substainable displacements.
This prize, awarded by the Ministry of Ecology acknowledge permanent measures boosted in the municipalities to improve displacements in the city. The council of Mobility, Raquel Ruz, has recieved the award yesterday in Madrid, has insisted on the bet of the City Council to make Granada a more friendly and better quality of life city.
Granada, that has participated on the category of more than 50,000 inhabitants, and has competed with three permanent measures launched on 2017: the implementation of measures for the pedestrian access to historic center specifically to Realejo District-, changes in the vehicle fleet of collective urban transport from pollution ones to eco-substainable vehicles, and tax allowances to those companies encouraging Transport Plans for workers and also the creation of quality label Responsible Mobility.
After thanking the jury for the Gold Prize to the city of Granada, Raquel Ruz has considered this prize as a support to the measures encouraged by the City Council to educate and arise awareness people about the necessity of a substainable mobility, she said.
Sunday Car Free Day
Raquel Ruz has also remarked, in the municipal measures to make Granada a more habitable, healthful and substainable city, the consolidation of Car Free Day planned every second Sunday of the month. Recalling that the measure has been implemented as pilot experience on last June, in the Environmet Week, the council has justified this initiative to arise conciousness in citizenship against irrational use of cars and show benefits of other ways of displacement more substainable as bicycles, public trasport or foot displacements are..
This Sunday grenadines and visitors can enjoy playful and recreational activities organised in the street, said. Thanks to the cooperation of more than thirty companies, the center of Granada will be full of sport and leisure activities , swing dances, bicycle tracks, ecological and handcrafted markets or individual vehicle exhibitions, among others.
