Closing Ceremony of the Educational Activities 2015

Road safety education Granada Awards 2015

The closure of the course 2014/15 was on 18 june, presided by the Major of Granada, the Metropolitan Chief of Traffic, the Council of Citizens protection and Mobility and the Council of Education.

One more year we meet in this Assembly Room to celebrate the closure of the educational activities related with such an important thing in our city as their Road Safety is.

The City Council of Granada, has always assumed a big responsability with everything related with Road Safety: joining to the Social Contract for Road Safety subscribed in the Senate and the joining to the European Charter of Fundamental Rights of Pedestrians, Ponle Freno Award 2012, Urban Road Safety 2012 sponsored by the Department of Traffic (DGT).

In Granada, most of all between the children population, youth and elderly, Road Safety and to motivate ways of displacement more susbtainable and healthy,is not a pending subject because it is something worked every day, however we must continue teaching to improve quality of life in our urban space.

So we have many promising factors:

  • Almost the entirety of schools and high schools in Granada applicate for the educational activities that the City Council offers through the Educational Road Safety Center, also NGO´s requests them in the summer time.
  • The educational measures are taking effect between grenadines: accidents of young people driving mopeds have decreased, the use of helmet is almost implemented, ways of displacement more substainable and healthier are increasing: bicycle and pedestrian displacements mostly.
  • The overall assessment of the teachers of the activities offered, is always positive and with brand new expansion proposals for all courses of Primary, and Secondary School, High School and Preparatory Training.

The Citizen´s Protection and Mobility Area, through the Education and Road Safety Center of the Granada City Council, organizes this exposition in the European Mobility Week.

We can find some aspects of traffic: the use of safety belts, the use of helmet, security distance, speed, abuse of alcohol, use of the mobile phone, or the driving license; elements that affect security when driving, and it uses humor to get to the citizens in a entertaining way.

This exposition was produced by the Graphic Humor Programme and took part of the XII International Exhibition of Graphic Humor (2005). There are 130 pictures from 32 countries that tackles a wide geographical representation.

This project of Safe School Routes developed by the Road Safety Center of the City Council of Granada, is a initiative came up in the cities, where worries to recover the spaces children had before and at present has been occupied by vehicles. Streets are meant to be spaces, not only to walk around but to live together. In the end,the purpose is to recover the streets for children as source of learning and social and personal development, as they were not long time ago

There are a compound of actuations to make come true a project expected to be extended to many other educative centers:

      • With the information taken from the Road Safety Plan we have analysed school mobility through polls between 10000 schoolchilds of different educational centers.
      • The conclusions have been sended to every participant educational center, inviting them to join the project of Safe School Routes which target is to promote the active displacements, healthier and safer of schoolchilds that live under 1,5 km distance from the educative center.
      • Ave Mª San Isidro school is the first one to join this pilot experience that we present today.
      • It has been created specific signs both vertical and road marks to indicate the meeeting points for the youngest one, and safer routes for schoolchilds in general as well.
      • The informative sign designed of meeting points for little children to go accompanied, are located in 4 points, on request of the AMPAS and at these meeting points always will be adults( fathers, mothers or grandparents)that will pick up the schoolchilds left by their parents and take them to the school center on foot to avoid congestions of cars at the doors of the school that involve so many problems and risk for schoolchilds.

Safe School Routes granada Safe School Routes granada
